VACATION:
For the first 3 years of government service, employees earn 13 days of vacation each year.  For 3 to 15 years of federal service, employees earn 20 days of vacation each year, and after 15 years of federal service, employees earn 26 days of vacation each year.  Additionally, up to (240 hours) 30 days of annual leave may be carried over into the following year.

SICK LEAVE:
Regardless of the length of government service, employees earn 13 days of sick leave a year with no limit on amount that can be accrued and rolled over into the following years.

HOLIDAYS:

AFAA observes 10 federal holidays per year.

FLEXIBLE WORK HOURS:

You have flexibility in establishing your work hours.  You may start work anytime between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.  Depending on your start time, your workday can end anytime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

 

COMPRESSED WORKWEEK:

This option allows you to work a 5-4/9 work schedule.  You may work eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day each biweekly pay period with alternating Fridays off. 

 

An example of a compressed biweekly work period follows:

 

Week One:      Monday-Thursday (9-hour days)

                      Friday (8-hour day)

Week Two:      Monday-Thursday (9-hour days)

                      Friday (day off)


TELEWORK:

Telework allows eligible employees to work from home on a regular or situational basis.


RETIREMENT:

The Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) is a flexible plan designed for a work force that is more likely to work for several different employers during the course of a career.

 

THRIFT SAVINGS PLAN:
The TSP is comparable to a private-sector tax-deferred 401(k) plan.  The TSP offers all participants: 

  • Tax deferral on contributions

  • A choice of 5 investment funds

  • A loan program

  • In-service withdrawals for financial hardship or after age 59

  • A choice of post-separation withdrawal options

  • The ability to transfer money from other eligible retirement savings plans into your TSP account  

Employee can receive 2 types of agency contributions (matching) to your TSP account, which together can equal as much as 5 percent of your basic pay.


HEALTH BENEFITS:
The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program offers a wide selection of health plan options to best meet your health needs.  The program offers guaranteed protection that cannot be canceled by the plan, coverage without medical examination, or restrictions because of age, current health, or pre-existing medical conditions.  The Air Force shares the premium costs.

VISION/DENTAL BENEFITS
The Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) offers dental and vision benefits to eligible federal employees, retirees, and their family members.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS
The Federal Flexible Spending Account (FSAFEDS) Program allows eligible employees to save money for health care expenses with a Health Care or Limited Expense Health Care Flexible Spending Account.  Accounts for families with young children or elder care expenses are available.

LIFE INSURANCE:

The Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program is an optional group life insurance plan offering low rates and the convenience of payment through payroll deduction.  Basic life insurance coverage is equal to your annual basic pay (rounded to next $1,000) plus $2,000.  Optional additional coverage for you and your family is available. 

 

MOVING EXPENSES:

AFAA can pay transportation and moving expenses if you are being hired into a centrally managed position.

 

OVERSEAS ASSIGNMENTS:

After completing the Agency’s new auditor training program, you are eligible for overseas tours in Europe and the Pacific.  Your family may accompany you and all moving expenses are paid.  While overseas, you receive a nontaxable housing allowance, a cost of living allowance, and have full access to the Base Exchange, commissary (grocery store) and medical facilities.

 

PHYSICAL FITNESS:

AFAA allows up to 3 hours administrative leave per week for physical fitness activities at base fitness centers.  Also, some Health and Wellness Clinics provide services such as body-fat analysis, cholesterol and blood pressure screening, and smoking cessation classes.

 

DAYCARE CENTER:

Access to base daycare centers upon availability.

 

MORALE, WELFARE, & RECREATION / TICKETS & TOURS:

Access to facilities such as bowling alleys, hobby shops, golf courses, and many others.  Opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for local attractions, concerts, sporting events, and travel.
